Creative Arts Napier is bringing back the biennial HB Art Review after an absence of several years .

This selected exhibition at CAN will showcase the best of the arts in Hawke's Bay.

Submissions are invited from:

• Local, emerging, and established artists working across all media, including both art and design, and from artists throughout NZ who can demonstrate close connections to the Bay.

Deadline for registering your submission: Friday 4th July 2025

Deadline for sending in your submission form: Friday 1st August 2025, 4pm.

• Israel (Ngāpuhi, Ngāi Tawake, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Rakaipaaka) is considered one of New Zealand’s most talented Māori artists and holds a Masters in Maori Visual Arts from Massey University.

Selection Completed: Friday 12th September 2025 - please note, our Bookings Team will be in touch early the following week to advise each artist if your work has been selected with additional instructions for selected artists.

Exhibition Dates: 3rd- 30th October 2025

Gala Opening: Friday 3rd October 2025, 5-7pm

Selector’s Floor talk: Saturday 4th October 2025, 11am

Please take note of the following important information regarding this event:

• This information must be read in conjunction with our current terms and conditions - click here to view
• The judges decision is final, no correspondence will be entered into.
• Work must be original, and created solely by the artist.
• Digital reproductions of original work will not be accepted.
• Work must not have been exhibited before in Hawke's Bay, or received a previous award.
• Work completed before December 2024 will not be accepted.
• All work must be for sale.
• Selection process will be made from the digital images supplied by the artist - it is important that your images are high resolution and in .jpeg format. Clearly name your image so it can be identified by CAN staff. The selector will not be given information about the artists, only the artwork.
• Work must not exceed maximum measurements of 1.5m x 1.5m x 1.5m and maximum weight of 20kg's.
• Maximum 3 entries per artist. Each entry must be on a separate online registration and a separate submission form. Entry fees of $40 payable for each entry and is non-refundable.
• Photography of your work is allowed during the exhibition and may be used for publicity purposes.

Selected works:

• All work must be clearly labelled when delivered, with installation instructions if applicable.
• If hand delivered, selected work must be unpacked at CAN by the artist and packaging taken away.
• All selected work must be professionally presented for display: frames or canvases to be strung and fixed with 2 x large D rings on reverse.
• Unframed 2D works on paper will not be accepted.
• Unsold work, it is the responsibility of the artist to collect or arrange courier and packaging.
